Wednesday Weigh In

HA! I have gremlins in my scale.  Last week I lost 4 pounds for a total of 103.7 pounds.  Since I gained 3.2 pounds the week before for no reason, I'm calling this week a .8 pound loss.  Today I weigh 191.2, a new low.  Yay for me!

It was a really great week in terms of exercise.  I amped things up, going from 60 minutes a day to 90 minutes.  I also went from running 8 minute intervals to 20 minute intervals.  When I first saw the 20 minutes on the training schedule my heart started pounding.  How on earth do I go from running 8 minutes at a time to running 20 minutes at a time?  I couldn't see how it was it was possible and didn't think I could do it.  I told myself...just run 10 minutes, or 12 minutes, or 14 minutes and I gave myself permission to stop running if I felt like I couldn't do it.  I have this whole setup going...I never watched Grey's Anatomy when it started but I'm recording it on the DVR in the bedroom with the treadmill (Lifetime is playing the series from the beginning, 2 episodes a day).  So, I just watch the show and started running and then before you know it...it was 19 minutes later.  And I wasn't even tired!!  I couldn't believe it.  I totally could have kept going but I followed the training plan and stopped running when the 20 minutes were up.  I've run 20 minutes twice since then.  Next is 22 minutes on Thursday.  I haven't looked at next week's plan yet.  I can't believe how good I feel.  I'm  not even tired when I run.  Never in a million years would I have thought I could run this far without stopping.  I know I'm just a baby runner, but I'm so proud of myself.  Especially given the fact that I basically had to start over from the beginning after my surgery a few months ago.  The recovery was much more difficult than I anticipated and I was surprised at how far it set me back in terms of exercise.  Anyway, I had way too much going on this past week to get to a yoga class and I'm really missing it.  I really need to get back there soon before I lose the habit.

I made Splenda chocolate chip cookies for Super Bowl Sunday and am pleased to report that I only had one!  And one on Monday.  Those and one fun size Reese's were my 'treats' this past week.  Not too bad!  Especially given the amount of spinach I consumed!  I am so bummed that I didn't know until this past week about the whole green monster smoothie situation.  I literally have had either a protein shake or a smoothie everyday for the past 18 months or so.  Think of all the spinach I could have added in to those drinks.  Such wasted opportunity.  Oh well.  At least I know now.

A few days ago I stumbled onto a local Lucy store.  I'd never heard of it until Bella told me about it.  I was out with DH and we just happened to walk right past it so we took the opportunity to go in.  Of course I had to try on a bunch of stuff.  Out of habit I immediately grabbed the XL...and they were all way too big.  I was flabbergasted!  The L fit perfectly.  I still cannot believe that I can go into these normal people exercise stores and wear normal people clothes.  It doesn't seem right.

Speaking of clothes, my coworkers tease me that my pants are too big.  I don't think they're too terribly big but they must be because they've made several comments now.  They fit OK in the waist and hips, but they're definitely big in the legs and butt.  My brand new workout pants that I just bought are suddenly way too big.  Even Bella commented that they were big when I saw her last. As you saw from my post last week, I've literally been within 3 pounds the past 3 months but I've obviously lost inches because my clothes are definitely looser.

That's it for this week.  How are you faring with your exercise goals?

  3. I love, love, love Grey's Anatomy!!

I'm super impressed with your running - I can't even imagine running for 8 minutes (or 5 for that matter) -- still, I'm hoping to work on improving my running this year, and you're totally motivating me to take that goal seriously!

Congrats on an all-time low -- keep it up!! :)

  4. I'm so glad that you made it into a Lucy store! What did you think of the clothes? Cute, right? And how cool that you're in a size L. Nice. Did you end up buying anything? If so, show it!

90 minutes of exercise is a lot! Good for you. I love the fact that you just turned on the tv, got on the treadmill and ran for 20 minutes like it was no big deal. Awesome! It's good to know that Lifetime is replaying Grey's. I was a huge fan, but then somehow got out of watching it 2 seasons ago, so I need to catch up. I'm going to have to make sure to set the DVR to catch some of those older episodes.

  5. Running 20 minutes?? You rock! That's wonderful, I'm so happy for you!

Scale gremlins I understand, but a loss is a loss, so celebrate it. It sure sounds like you had your nutrition on track this week too. Keep it up!

  6. I go through phases in terms of how much time I spend working out each day. I usually stay around 60 minutes 4-6 days per week, and then long run one day a week. But when I'm in a cycle where I bump it up to 90, I also notice a huge difference. Glad it's working so well for you! And insanely awesome on the run!
